Jaipur rewards an early start. The forts are cooler and quieter in the morning, the old city comes alive in the evening, and with a car and driver you can move between them without haggling for autos.
Day 1: Amer and the hills
- 8:00 am – Amer Fort. Arrive at opening time to beat the heat and the tour buses. Allow two to three hours.
- 11:30 am – Jal Mahal. A quick photo stop at the palace in Man Sagar Lake, on the way back to the city.
- Lunch in the city, then rest through the hottest part of the day.
- 4:30 pm – Nahargarh Fort. Drive up for sunset over the city. It is one of the best views in Rajasthan.

Day 2: The old city
- 9:00 am – City Palace and Jantar Mantar. They are next to each other, so park once and walk.
- 11:30 am – Hawa Mahal. See the famous facade from the street, then go inside for the view from the top.
- Afternoon – Albert Hall Museum.
- Evening – Johari and Bapu Bazaar for jewellery, textiles and mojris.

Best time to visit
October to March is the most comfortable. Summer afternoons are very hot, so if you visit between April and June, plan all sightseeing before noon and after 4 pm.
